How to Measure for a Wedding Dress

Use a soft measuring tape. Keep the tape level and snug without pulling. For a fitted gown, take measurements in the undergarments you expect to wear and consider having a tailor or bridal stylist check them. Bust, natural waist and fullest hips are useful starting points; you may also need hollow-to-hem for dress length.

Why bridal dress size numbers differ

One designer's size 14 can fit differently from another designer's size 14. Body measurements, the fabric's stretch, the cut and the collection's intended fit matter more than the label number. Our calculator uses published reference measurements as an illustrative starting point; the designer's size chart should decide your purchase.

Using the Dress Size Converter

  1. Choose whether you know a dress label or want to start with measurements.
  2. Convert your known size, or enter bust, waist and hips with inches/centimeters selected.
  3. Review the approximate size and comparison labels, then verify with the designer before placing an order.
Reference data: The measurement lookup uses the published Azazie bridal/bridesmaid size examples (US 00–30). International mappings for US 0–30 follow Azazie's published size-chart labels; US 00 equivalents are drawn from the ASOS ready-to-wear chart. French labels are approximate and not part of Azazie's published comparison. Do not assume these charts apply to every bridal designer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my estimated size an exact bridal gown size?

No. This is a published-chart reference. Compare your measurements with the exact designer's chart and ask about alterations.

What if my measurements point to different sizes?

The tool checks all three measurements and flags possible in-between sizes. Dress cut and alterations affect which label will fit; a bridal professional can help confirm.

Can I measure in centimeters?

Yes. Switch the unit selector to centimeters. Values are converted locally without sending them to a server.

Does a UK 18 always equal US 14?

No. Those are example label equivalents, not a guarantee. Sizing practices vary by brand and clothing range.

Does the calculator save my measurements?

No. The calculation happens in your browser; this tool does not send measurements to an API or store them in a user account.

Do plus-size, petite or maternity dresses use the same chart?

Not necessarily. Those collections can have different blocks, ease and proportions. Always consult the exact line's published chart.
